ORA Annual Matches
Friday
With a good entry and excellent weather, today was a good start to the 128th ORA Annual Matches. Not everyone is shooting all three days, but there are 82 TR and 27 F Class registered for some part of the match. There was a changeable breeze which caused a few problems, especially at the longer ranges in the afternoon. However, scoring was quite high, with tie shoots still being required to decide some of the winners. There is a very large group of Canadian and British Cadets, many of whom are shooting extremely well, as the lists will show. There is some 'cleaning up' of some of the data to be done in the morning, especially to identify where people live - some seem reluctant to divulge this secret!
The weather forecast for Saturday is a little dubious, with some afternoon showers possible. The day's shooting will consist of the Lt. Governor's Qualifying Stage.

Saturday
We were very lucky today! It was cloudy all day with rain threatening, especially in the afternoon. Visitors who dropped by spoke of 5 hours of continuous rain while driving from Windsor, and of heavy down-pours all around us. Indeed it started to rain around 5 pm, but not too heavily, and we were able to complete the full day's programme as well as some tie shoots. The lists will show the primary details.
All four matches contribute to the Lt. Governor's Part 1. 40 TR shooters and a total of 10 F Class will qualify. The list shows the provisional cut-off, with a small window for protests in the morning. Paul Tremblay leads the TR contingent, not having dropped a point all day. But the top half dozen or so are within a few points, and with 15 shots at 1000 yards to come, much can still change. New ORA members, Will Chou, leads the F Class but only 2 points separate the top shooters.
In the other events, John Kajfes continues his successes in F Class, winning much of the rest of the day, including two tie shoots. With just 15 shots at 600 yards to go in the Mercer Aggregate, Paul Tremblay has a three point lead over Bruce Bullock and Shannon Carlton, while John Kajfes leads Bruce Condie by 2 and Norman Barber by three in F Class.
Two performances are specially worthy of note: Cadet Grace Coburn from Northern Ireland had a perfect 50.10 inthe Brassey at 500 yards - the only full score of the meeting so far. And Andy Kolenko who was only 'up for the day' nearly matches this with 50.9 at 900 yards in the John Brick. Andy has decided to come back and try his luck in the Final tomorrow!
The forecast for tomorrow is a bit better, so we hope that all the matches will be completed. My report tomorrwo evening will tell the tale.

Sunday
Following last evening's rain, the day started with low cloud and mist. The start at 600 yards was delayed, but this allowed a tie-shoot at 300 yards to take place. The the often-fated Des Burke Match got under way. By the end of the first relay, there was light rain and ominous sounds of thunder. Then the storm broke, with a good deluge, and shooting was suspended. It did not take long to decide that the Burke had to be scrubbed, along with the Long Range Team Match. By noon, it was sunny and calm, but very humid. The Final started soon after 12:30 pm.
The Lt. Governor's was won by Paul Tremblay from Quebec City, who did not drop a point. This may be a record, but we must check the archives. Tom Bledowski won the F Class, breaking a little bit off the Kajfes monopoly.
Major aggregates were thus determined without the contribution of the Burke. A pity - but we were probably fortunate to be able to get the Final fired.
John Kajfes continued to take nearly everything in the F Class, winning the Mercer and Ottawa Aggregates. Honours were more evenly shared amongst the F(F/R) shooters with the names of Terry Perkins and Will Chou most prominent.
Paul Tremblay won the TR Mercer by three points from Bruce Bullock and Shannon Carlton. Bruce won the Ottawa Aggregate and Shannon the Short Range Aggregate. Members of the large cadet contingent shot very well, often placing above more senior shooters in the prize lists.
The Prize Giving was held as the clouds started to roll back in, but everyone was able to get away before serious rain set in.
Most prize lists posted to date are subject to another check and clean-up. The final versions will be posted here in due course and published in booklet form for the competitors.
